Leading Belarusian bank plans to launch crypto exchange

Joining the ranks of banks using innovative technology, Belarusbank’s Board Chairman, Viktar Ananich, spoke to local Belarusian media outlets announcing the bank’s research into cryptocurrencies to possibly implement them in the future through establishing a cryptocurrency exchange, and more.

Belarusbank isn’t the first Belarusian bank to make the switch from traditional to more advanced banking. In early 2017, the National Bank of Belarus launched a blockchain network to use for registration for bank guarantees.

According to Ananich, Belarusbank is planning to begin the transition to become a more technologically savvy institution. He also spoke about the technological trend digitizing services which the bank plans of beginning shortly. Belarusbank plans on expanding their services offered to patrons by partnering with mobile phone companies.

Founding in 1922, Belarusbank offers an array of services from consumer banking, securities, and credit cards, among others. Their net income from 2017 was $86 million USD.
