Brazilian retail group Via Varejo, owner of the Casas Bahia home appliance and furniture chain, has announced a partnership with blockchain payment service Airfox.

The group is integrating Airfox’s digital banking platform on its e-commerce service, as well as in its chain of over 900 stores im 350 cities across Brazil.

Customers will be able to purchase goods in Casas Bahia by paying directly via Airfox and also use microloans provided by Via Varejo. The app can also be used for personal finance, such as depositing and withdrawing cash at one of the stores.

Airfox launched its mobile financial service, which includes fiat and blockchain payments via its AirToken (AIR) coin, an Ethereum Request for Comment (ERC)-20 based token, in February this year.

Driving mainstream adoption

A press release announcing the partnership outlines the importance of the collaboration for mass adoption of blockchain-powered payment services, letting the Airfox “extend its mobile digital wallet to Via Varejo’s national customer base and drive mainstream adoption.”

Via Varejo is among the largest consumer electronics and home appliance retailers in Brazil, with 60m customers for its brands Casas Bahia and Pontofrio.
