Coin ATM Radar reports 5 new crypto ATMs per day
Cryptocurrency ATM installations worldwide doubled within the last year. There are now 4,171 crypto ATMs in existence across the globe, with an average of five new ATMs popping up around the world per day, according to the report published by Coin ATM Radar.
USA is leading the way with the highest percentage of crypto ATMs worldwide. It also has more than half of the world’s crypto ATMs, coming in at 56 percent. In California alone, there are 474 cryptocurrency ATMs, and in Illinois there are 250, mostly in Chicago and its closest suburbs. In California, crypto ATMs are mostly located within Los Angeles (263) and San Francisco’s Silicon Valley (65) area.
Bitcoin is accepted at 99.9 percent of these ATMs; however, there are actually 64.6 percent of the 4,171 ATMs worldwide, which accept other forms of cryptocurrency. For instance, there are 23 percent in Europe; 12 percent in Canada; 2.6 percent in Asia; 1.3 percent in Oceania; 1.1 percent are in South America, and 0.2 percent are in Africa.
According to Coin ATM Radar, in many countries across the globe, cryptocurrency ATMs fall under the specific regulations, most of which have been created recently. In order to legally own and operate a digital currency ATM, one has to ensure compliance with local laws first, including licensing and compliance, among others.
