Coinbase, the San Francisco-based cryptocurrency exchange, has announced it is launching new order-book trading pairs for British pounds on Friday, 7 September.

Coinbase introduces sterling deposit and withdrawal facility for UK customers

General manager David Farmer said the trading platform had support for direct UK bank transfers through the Faster Payments Scheme to make it easier for UK customers to trade cryptocurrencies on the Coinbase platform.

UK Faster Payments

“Coinbase Pro is the only major digital currency trading platform that supports UK Faster Payments and it’s our goal to be the trading platform of choice for UK crypto traders,” Farmer said on the Coinbase blog.

The new system offers trading services for pounds sterling against bitcoin, ethereum, bitcoin cash, ethereum classic and litecoin.

Coinbase’s new direct sterling deposit and withdrawal facility replaces the previous method of converting pounds into euros to fund trading accounts – a process that took several days to complete a cross-border bank transfer.
