Yahoo! Finance (YF) announced in a blog post on Thursday that it has added a new feature to its platform that enables trading in four cryptocurrencies.

The news site for real-time stock quotes and market information said that the function on its iOS mobile app now supports app trading in four assets: bitcoin core (BTC), ethereum (ETH), litrecoin (LTC) and dogecoin (DOGE).

The feature is not yet visible on desktop browsers, but YF said that it plans to extend the service at a future date to Android, desktop, and mobile web platforms.

The new feature has been launched via a partnership with TradeIt, a platform that integrates with brokerage services to act as a hub for trading financial assets. While YF didn’t give details on the brokerage platform its iOS platform connects to for crypto trading, TradeIt said last year that it had integrated with US crypto exchange Coinbase.

A qualified welcome

The news was welcomed by crypto enthusiasts keen for wider adoption such as Morgan Creek Digital’s founding partner Anthony Pompliano, who tweeted: “The virus is spreading; you can now buy Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin on Yahoo Finance.”

However, others noted that while the platform tracks other popular cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin cash (BCH), YF hasn’t yet made them also available for trade to the public.

YF claims to be one of the biggest business news websites in the US and since June 2017 has been owned by Oath Inc, a subsidiary of Verizon.
